cockroach control in Raleigh North Carolina

The two most common types of cockroaches we see in North Carolina are the German cockroach and the American cockroach. Here, we will explain the differences between the two and the best treatment plan.

German cockroaches vs. American cockroaches

German cockroaches, or German roaches, can be found anywhere in North Carolina where humans live. This is due in part to German roaches depending on human living conditions to survive! These small, oval-shaped insects are light brown in color with 2 darker colored stripes down their back. They are mostly found in kitchens and bathrooms as they like moist, dark areas with a food source nearby. German roaches are mostly active at night. A tell-tell sign that you have a German roach infestation is when you get up for a drink of water, turn on the kitchen lights, and see insects scurrying away.

American cockroaches, or American roaches, are more commonly found outside. This is not to say they cannot come inside your home, but they prefer the decaying ground matter. They are also known to feed on fermenting materials or foods. The American roach is larger than the German roach and reddish-brown in color, lacking the 2 darker stripes. We typically find American roaches near brush piles, sewer and water sources, and in wooded areas around the home.

Treatment Plans

Both types of roaches can be difficult to get rid of. It is recommended that you leave it to pest professionals. At Kind Pest Control, we have trained technicians that will inspect your home, determine the best course of action, and recommend treatment.

American roaches are covered with quarterly services, as they can be controlled with the product we use quarterly. However, German roaches require extensive treatment and can take longer to see results depending on how populous the infestation is. As a result, our technicians will recommend a targeted, monthly treatment plan.
